Icons Explained
Maybe you don’t want to read every issue in this guide, maybe you just want to follow Spider-Man and the Avengers? Then the icons are for you. The icons help you narrow the guide to the path you want to take. Choose which parts of the Marvel Universe you’re interested in and then just follow the icons.
HOW TO:
Choose at least one of the “stand-alone” icons; like Avengers, Spider-Man and/or X-Men. Note that most big events are heavily based on Avengers, so if you’re into reading the events you should be reading Avengers for sure.
Then choose whatever icons you like to add. The “add-ons” is connected to a stand-alone icon, for example the add-on icon Wolverine is connected to the stand-alone icon X-Men, so check the list below.
I strongly recommend reading all the issues marked with the Event icon, if you’re interested in the events, and continue the titles if you like them.
BIG NOTE THOUGH:
Following the icons instead of reading the whole guide might open up some questions along the way.
For example: If you’re reading X-Men and not Wolverine, some events in Wolverine might be mentioned in X-Men - and you won’t know what it means.
Marvel comics are interwoven, characters and teams appear in different titles and form new teams along the way and that means they’ll cross different storylines. If you’ve just followed one of those storylines with the help of the icons, you won’t know the others. That’s just the way Marvel works.
YOU DO YOU:
The icons are there as a helping tool. You don’t have to abide to anything. If you follow a character and that character makes a guest appearance in another title and you find that title interesting, keep reading it even if it doesn’t have the icons you’ve previously chosen. Most important thing is to enjoy yourself :)
